If I am taking hormonal contraceptives, can I use Rhythm & Flo™?
Chaste tree fruit, also known as chaste tree berry or vitex, is commonly used to support women struggling with the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. While there is no pharmacological evidence that reveals an interaction between chaste tree fruit and hormonal contraception (meaning there are no known contraindications), there have been case reports of unintended pregnancy in people using progesterone-only oral contraceptives simultaneously with chaste tree fruit (meaning some people have reported getting pregnant while taking their contraceptive and also taking Chaste tree fruit).
Based on these reports, it is recommended that individuals using hormonal contraceptives not use chaste tree fruit if they are using the contraceptive for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. While it is not certain that chaste tree fruit will reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives, it cannot be excluded as a possibility.
